Joseph Tawadros hits #1 on the ARIA Core Classical Chart

ABC Classic are delighted to announce that Joseph Tawadros’ new album, Live at the Sydney Opera House, is the #1 album on the ARIA Core Classical Chart for the week beginning June 29, 2020.

In reaching #1 Joseph achieved some significant records and milestones:

· The first album by an Australian classical artist to reach #1 since May 20, 2019;

· The first album focusing on music by an Australian composer to reach #1 since February 18, 2019;

· It broke English superstar Sheku Kanneh-Mason’s run of 13 consecutive weeks in the top spot.

Joseph says, ‘ I'm so excited that my new album has reached #1! This album represents a culmination of my last twenty years of learning about different types of music, cultures, and feelings, and finding resonances with people who share my emotions through music. I believe in the oud, and I have always felt it had something to say in any genre, capable of transcending its Middle Eastern origin and connecting with all people, regardless of background. That is why it is special to see so many people enjoying the album, understanding what it is about and feeling the music in the way I intended. I am very thankful for the listeners support and enthusiasm, and taking it to the top spot.

Recorded live in concert in June 2019, the album features Joseph’s milestone work in three movements - Concert for Oud & Orchestra. It is also a rollicking ride through another 9 of his popular pieces, straddling the genres of classical, jazz and world music like no other artist.

Alongside his brother James Tawadros, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by maestro Benjamin Northey, Joseph creates sounds and moods like you have never heard before.

The album is available now on CD and streaming here.
